Valentina Overcomes Mesial Temporal Lobe Sclerosis and Epilepsy Challenges

Most parent’s dream of a happy, healthy baby. When Valentina’s family witnessed symptoms of seizures, they knew something was really wrong. They quickly realized that they were embarking on the parenting journey managing the  significant health challenges with a diagnosis of Mesial Temporal Lobe Sclerosis, Refractory Epilepsy, and Decreased Activity of the MTHFR gene. his posed a series of challenges for Valentina, impacting various aspects of her life, including reading, writing, physical activities, and overall neurological function.

Valentina's medical journey eventually led the family to the Doman Method® Program by Doman International Institute which she began at the age of 8. Her initial diagnosis by Doman to assess the extent of her brain injury revealed severe, diffuse, bilateral midbrain and cortex injury.

Valentina's condition affected her ability to read and write at age-appropriate levels. The cognitive impact of Mesial Temporal Lobe Sclerosis posed a hurdle in her educational progress.

Daily activities were sometimes affected due to the seizures caused by refractory epilepsy. Valentina's reduced ability to engage in aerobic activities, coordination, and patterned movements created physical challenges.

Valentina's condition influenced her social interactions, making communication difficult. For anyone with speech challenges and a decreased ability to convey thoughts can  lead to feelings of isolation.

Despite the challenges, Valentina's story is one of triumph. On the Doman Method® Program  Valentina’s symptoms improved greatly. Areas such as reading, writing, aerobic activities, and overall neurological function have witnessed substantial growth. The incorporation of a rotation diet, BEP (Brain Exercise Program), and SRT (Sensory Repatterning Therapy) has contributed to Valentina's positive trajectory.

Managing a complex medical condition like Valentina's comes with significant financial implications. The cost of these specialized programs, therapies, and medical consultations puts strain on the  family's resources.

Thanks to friends of  YaraStar, the YaraStar scholarship awarded to Valentina emerged as a lifeline for Valentina and her family. With this support, Valentina's parents can sustain her program for an additional six months, ensuring the continuity of her progress. Financial barriers that once hindered access to essential resources are now alleviated, allowing Valentina to thrive.

Valentina's progress is not just measured in terms of academic and physical achievements but also in the enhancement of her social skills. Reduced seizures, improved speech, and increased confidence in social interactions showcase the profound impact of early intervention  on her overall well-being.

Valentina is not just overcoming challenges but thriving in her pursuit of a fulfilling and enriching life. Her story reminds us of the importance of supporting individuals with unique needs, fostering an inclusive and compassionate society.
