Treasured Talents Summer Camp 2025: Making Room in Katy, Tx
Westland Baptist Church’s gym and outdoor spaces became a safe, joy-filled place for nearly 40 children in Katy, Texas for our inaugural inclusive summer camp.
Tables were set for art and STEM, music and movement on the schedule, and adaptive archery ready outside. Activity leaders were set to open doors to new skills for our campers.
Thanks to Sponsors and donors, the supplies, equipment, and training were in place way before even the first name tag was printed.
Families arrived with hope and questions. We heard comments like, “There’s no camp like this in Katy.” One mom said, “Thank you for accepting my child.” Another asked, “Will this camp be held every 3 months?”
“Thank you for accepting my child”
Our amazing camp volunteers made all the difference
Our volunteers deserve special honor. They showed up hands-on and heart-first; kneeling beside new friends, learning communication styles, celebrating tiny steps and big breakthroughs. With their support, no camper was left waiting or wondering what to do next. They served with such compassion and empathy. One volunteer remarked on the atmosphere itself: welcoming, kind, and steady.
Hard moments came, as they do, however meltdowns were met with calm. No one had to explain their child to be understood.
Camp Director Jaynia, our Camp Lead Volunteer, Amanda along with all area leads modeled Christ-like love and patience in every interaction.

At camp, we saw campers practice courage in small, real ways and we could tell that the parents felt seen and supported.
That’s the story of this camp: acceptance, steady support, and children growing in confidence right in front of us.
Camp closed with our family celebration and YaraStar’s Birthday Bash, in honor of Yara’s life and the numerous lives her legacy now touches.
What we witnessed points forward: this is the heart of our Make Room movement. In Katy and the next town, we’ll keep building simple, repeatable spaces where every child belongs.
Our aim is practical inclusion: local teams equipped, parents supported, children growing in confidence and knowing they are loved. That is the legacy we carry in Jesus’ name.
