Neurological Recovery: Davud’s Determined Steps Forward
Davud uses the overhead brachiation ladder to help him physically and to improve his mobility.
Davud’s life has been shaped by courage, consistency, and extraordinary perseverance. At 9 years old, Davud lives with the lasting effects of childhood cancer, right hemiplegia, blindness, and hypothyroidism. From an early age, his parents were told to limit their expectations. Instead, they chose to lean into what was still possible and to keep moving forward, one step at a time.
A Family That Never Stopped Showing Up
Davud lives with his parents, who have been actively involved in his recovery since 2016. Over the years, they have traveled across countries in search of the best care available, dedicating themselves fully to his growth and well-being. Their days are shaped by round-the-clock support, repetition, and an unwavering belief that Davud’s abilities are still unfolding.
Through their work with Doman International, Davud’s program has been carefully adapted to meet his complex needs—addressing vision, mobility, language, and understanding in ways that build on one another.
By the Fall of 2024, continuing Davud’s intensive program required added support. A scholarship from YaraStar Foundation made it possible for the family to move forward without pausing updates or progress.
This support did not remove the work Davud’s parents were already doing. It helped sustain it—allowing them to keep implementing the program fully and consistently during a critical season.
Progress That Redefined What Was Possible
Since beginning the program, Davud has reached major milestones. He now understands far more of the world around him and is approaching age-level comprehension. His vision has improved to the point where he recognizes images and sees details—an extraordinary shift given earlier limitations.
In mobility, Davud has learned to crawl and creep and has taken up to twelve independent steps. With continued walking practice, he now walks five to seven steps on his own. His language has expanded dramatically—he communicates using short phrases and has nearly 2,000 words. Compared to before starting the program, Davud has gained more than fifteen months of neurological growth.
“We were once told he would never be able to do many of the things he now does with confidence.” - Davud’s Mom
Steady Hope for the future
Davud’s parents remain deeply committed to continuing the program, with a clear focus on strengthening his vision and supporting as much independence as possible.
Davud’s journey shows how persistence and sustained care can reshape neurological function, and that is hope that not only his parents but other families can look at for inspiration for their child’s future.
